The U.S. bishops plan to hold a second Fortnight For Freedom this summer, June 21-July 4, as a way of praying, learning and taking action on the issue of religious liberty. Locally, the Diocese of Des Moines will have an "Independence Celebration: Pray for life, marriage and religious liberty" on Sunday, July 7 beginning with 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Ambrose Cathedral (6th and High Street in downtown Des Moines). Following Mass at 11:30 a.m. there will be a religious liberty update and call to action, followed by holy hour beginning at 11:45 a.m. The event concludes with a reception at 1 p.m. across the street at the Catholic Pastoral Center (6th and Grand Avenue).
