In order to make "The Joy of the Gospel" a living document in the Church of the United States, the U.S. bishops have convened a historic convocation of Catholic leaders this July. At this gathering diocesan delegations will reflect on Pope Francis’s call to be a Church which goes forth. Further, they will identify concrete and measurable ways to better serve the peripheries of our communities. Our diocese is sending a delegation of 17 individuals, and in preparation for the convocation we’d like to hear from you, so that we can bring our local perspective to this national conversation. Please consider responding to this survey by Friday, June 16.

Thank you for your participation, and please pray for this historic gathering in the upcoming weeks!

Pope Francis is heading to Portugal May 12-13 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary to three shepherd children. Our Lady of Fatima appeared six times to them beginning May 13, 1917. The pope is expected to canonize two of the children, Jacinta and Francisco Marto.

EWTN has multiple programs scheduled in celebration of the anniversary and the pope's visit.

Locally, the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations has prepared a prayer service which will be held May 13 at Corpus Christi Parish (Holy Family site) in Council Bluffs, 23rd and Ave. B. at 6:30 p.m. During the service, the rosary will be prayed in five languages. A reception will be included. All are invited to participate. Contact Joan Gubbels at 712-322-4459 for more information.
